How to pronounce "Tare"

It's pronounced "tehr". Like to "tare" something on a scale. NOT "tah-reh".

Finding a restaurant or profile

You can search for restaurants or profiles on the top search bar. If you're on mobile, there should be a magnifying glass button: which toggles the search bar.

For restaurants (Food), you can search by a combination of name and address. The search also falls back to a semantic search if no direct matches are found.

For profiles (User), you can search by either the handle or the profile's name.

Finding reviews

Or, "What? I need to go out of my way to be fed data?"

Because everything in Tare is trust-based, you'll want to first find other accounts to see their reviews.

We have an example @intro user to get your feet wet. If you have an account already, you can crawl through the accounts the @intro user trusts. If you decide to trust any of them, you'll see their reviews on your Reviews page.

If you have a specific food place in mind, you can find it via search and view all global reviews for it. You don't need an account for this.

Reading reviews

Here's a sample review by the user @spongebob for the Krusty Krab:

  • Recommended, indirectly trusted
    June 01, 2026

    Wow this place is amazing!

  • The highlighted icon on the left represents both the rating and how far the reviewer is from you in your trust network. In this case @spongebob is distance 2 away from you. That means you don't directly trust them, but other people you trust do. In this case it's @sandy and @patrick.

Here's a table for all the possible icons:

Relationship Type Recommend "Meh" Don't recommend
Yourself (d=0) Recommended by you Neutral by you Not recommended by you
Directly trusted (d=1) Recommended, directly trusted Neutral, directly trusted Not recommended, directly trusted
Indirectly trusted (d=2) Recommended, indirectly trusted Neutral, indirectly trusted Not recommended, indirectly trusted
Other (not trusted) Recommended, not trusted Neutral, not trusted Not recommended, not trusted

    Sharing reviews

Reviews can be shared with anyone, including people who don't have an account. Here are some different ways to do so:

    Sharing a single review

You can share a single review by clicking on the "Link↗" part on the bottom right. This will copy a link to your clipboard.

Sharing multiple reviews by an account

You can share multiple reviews by any user. Go to their profile page, optionally select different filters on their "Reviews↗" section, and click on the "Reviews↗" button to share it. The copied link will preserve all your selected filters. The only things that might be different are the icons and trust chains -- these are dependent on the viewer.

    General tip for sharing

There are a couple of other ways to share reviews. Generally, if you see a "↗", it means that section can be shared and clicking on it will copy the relevant link to your clipboard.
